This is a bulletin detailing SBCI’s perspective on the recent Goodfellow Arbitration Decision which confirms that SBCI and other third-party organizations who assist school boards with the management of their sick leave and short-term disability programs cannot receive private medical information without the consent of the employee.

Concussions/mild traumatic brain injuries incurred by school board staff are a growing concern to our member school boards. The statistics below were gathered from the 58 district school boards that belonged to the SBCI WSIB/H&S services in 2013-14. Consequently, we have been working with member school boards to prepare a head injury guide. It is a guide intended for the school boards as background information for general use. For individual claims management, members are encouraged to continue to contact your SBCI Claims Manager for assistance.
